Why I’ll Never Use AI as a Content Writer
AI is everywhere these days. It’s pushed at us from every angle, promising to make our lives better, easier, faster.
But I’ll say it right now- I hate it. I don’t want AI in my Google Docs, cellphone, refrigerator, or anything else. It used to be a fun concept, but it's quickly proven to be anything but.
As a creative, AI is especially frustrating. Everyone thinks you should use it for most things, if not everything. Because why should you do anything if you aren't doing it the most "efficient" or "fastest" way?
That’s why I wanted to share why I'll never use AI to write content for me, now or ever. My anti-AI manifesto, if you will.
Why I don’t use AI as a content writer
It isn’t good
The first reason I won’t use AI to write for me is that it isn’t very good. Even if you use all the right prompts, you still have to edit the heck out of what AI produces to make it good. And I’d rather spend that time editing the rough draft I created, thank you very much.
There are so many "tells" about AI writing, but I think the worst offender is that it's soulless. It has no artistry, no creative license, no ability to break the rules to make a piece better. I'd rather write the piece myself than try to get AI to do it just the way I want.
AI is sketchy
I think we’ve all heard about the environmental, social, and mental costs of AI by now. It hurts everyone around it, whether or not you see or acknowledge it. It's designed to churn out slop and call it art.
Not all, but many people who use it are just as bad. They act like telling a machine to make them "art" is the same as painting the Mona Lisa. They don't care about stealing others' work or even protecting their own brain. And I want no part in that.
I built these skills
I’ve been writing since I could hold a pencil. I’ve spent years learning and practicing the craft of writing both fiction and non-fiction. I continue to work on improving my skills all the time.
If I spent all this time cultivating this skill, I’m sure as heck not going to just hand it over to AI to do instead. Just because it can do it faster (and of poorer quality) doesn't mean it should. I write because I love actually writing, and I want to keep getting better at it.
I value human writing
AI has never seen the colors of a sunrise or felt an ocean breeze on its face. It’s never held its baby niece for the first time or seen its grandfather for the last time. All those experiences that make us human are missing in AI writing. It might try to be like us, but it can’t.
I'd rather have a slightly flawed piece of content written by a human than a "perfect" one created by a machine. I want to continue supporting real, human writers because I know how hard they've worked at their craft.
My customers trust me
My clients hired me to write for them because they like what I do and the values I stand for. Immediately handing over the assignments to AI isn’t what they hired me for. They trust me to write content for them, and that's exactly what I'm going to do.
AI is trash and shouldn’t be accepted in creative spheres, now or ever. I fight against it every day, and I hope that if you’re reading this blog, you are too.
