11 Christmas Blog Post Ideas Any Small Business Can Use

As a small business owner, you’re busy this holiday season. There are products to make and ship, markets to attend, sales to run, and projects to wrap up.

But it’s not a bad idea to add publishing a few holiday blog posts in there, too.

Christmas is a great time to attract extra traffic to your website. People are googling all kinds of things, from holiday recipes to gift ideas. You can tap into this by writing quality posts, bringing more visitors to your website, and then turning them into customers.

But what kinds of posts should you write? Well, I’ve got eleven Christmas blog post ideas for you today. These aren't specific articles, but broad categories meant to help you brainstorm what works best for your unique business and customer base.

Note: You don't have to actually write these posts during your busy season in November and December. I suggest writing them in September or October and scheduling them to go live later instead.

Christmas Blog Post Ideas for Small Business Owners

1. Gift Guides

Gift guides are the classic holiday blog post. You've probably read them before yourself.

The best thing about gift guides is that they work for every business. All you have to do is round up gifts your target customer is looking for. They're helpful to customers, who are looking for gift ideas, and they help establish you as an authority in your niche. Plus, you can suggest your own products as gifts.

You can also take many different angles on them. You could do it by theme, such as tools or candles. You could go by relationship, like parents or siblings. You could do it by price, like $50 or less. The options are endless, and can even be combined to make even more targeted posts.

Examples:

  • The Best Gifts for Bibliophiles

  • Fantastic Custom Christmas Gifts for Mom

  • Under $100 Gifts for Kids

2. Stocking Stuffers

This is basically the same as a gift guide, but with smaller, cheaper items. Just make sure the gifts you suggest are actually something you could put in a stocking. I’ve seen some lists that include items so big they leave me scratching my head.

Like with gift guides, these are easy to theme around whatever your ideal customer is looking for. Age, gender, demographic, interest, etc. This makes it more useful for the reader and easier to put together for you.

Examples:

  • 100 Stocking Stuffers for Guys

  • Cute Stocking Stuffer Ideas for Kids

  • 15 Stocking Stuffers for the Writers in Your Life

3. Christmas DIYs

People love to make things around this time of year. So why not write a blog post showing them how to do something related to your business?

This is a great way to create original, helpful content, which readers and Google love. Include high-quality photos of the process, share tips and tricks, and maybe even have free templates or guides for people to print out.

If you have any graphic design skills, you could also create an infographic to share on social media and link back to your post. I especially recommend it if you're trying to improve your Pinterest strategy.

Examples:

  • How to Make Gingerbread Ornaments

  • Make Your Own Fabric Garland in 3 Easy Steps

  • How to Build a Christmas Tree From Books

4. Holiday Decorating

Besides gifts, decorations might be the biggest thing people look for during the holidays. We’re always looking for new items to buy or ways to turn our home into an HGTV spread.

Holiday decor posts take two major forms: 1) How to decorate, or 2) holiday decorations to buy. Each of those can then have all kinds of different angles, such as decorating a specific room or decorations for a certain purpose, such as outdoor use.

Examples:

  • How to Decorate Your WFH Space for Christmas

  • The Most Adorable Christmas Ornaments on the Internet

  • How to Create a Holiday Mantelpiece

5. Holiday Outfits

Okay, this one is a little less broadly applicable. But if you’re in the clothing or beauty space, don't skip this.

Who doesn’t need a little extra outfit inspiration around this time of year? There are so many parties and events to attend, most of us will need a few different outfit ideas. Providing them, along with picture inspiration, can be super helpful to browsers.

This type of post also makes a great segue into bringing up your products. Maybe you could even add a few photos of customers wearing your clothes, with proper credit, of course.

Examples:

  • The Gentlemen’s Guide to Holiday Attire

  • 15 Christmas Makeup Looks

  • Outfit Ideas for Every Holiday Activity

6. New Year Planning

While most of our focus is on Christmas right now, many people are also starting to look forward to the new year. What better way to provide value than anticipating what your audience might need to start January right?

This could look like a guide to setting goals, sharing how to make a vision board, reviewing different planners, and so much more. Look for unique angles you could share as well, making your content stand out and be extra helpful to your audience.

Examples:

  • We Tested Every Planner: These Are the Best Ones

  • How to Prepare Your Home for a New Year

  • Creating Vision Boards as a Christian Woman

7. Party Guide

Another common thing people do this time of year is host parties. So, they’re going to turn to the internet to help them figure out what they need to do, how to host, and ways to decorate.

A party guide of some kind is a fantastic resource for readers and a long-term asset for you. Unlike outfits that change or gifts that go out of style, tips for parties are pretty much timeless.

Examples:

  • How to Host a Holiday Dinner Party

  • 5 Steps to Planning a White Elephant Exchange

  • The Ultimate Guide to Hosting Family Christmas (Without Losing Your Mind)

8. Recipes

Another important part of the holiday? Food. Many of us have favorite recipes we return to year after year because we love them or they’re nostalgic. But plenty of people are also looking for new recipes to try.

You can either use recipes you’ve already made (if you run a food blog) or round up recipes from other popular sites. Just make sure to vet them so you’re only sharing the very best with your followers. As a bonus, these posts take minimal time and effort to create.

Examples:

  • 10 Mocktails You’ll Swear Have Alcohol

  • 20 Christmas Cookies to Add to the Rotation This Year

  • The Best Turkey Recipes for Christmas Dinner

9. Christmas Bucket List

Bucket lists are a great way to find inspiration for things to do any time of year. But they can be extra fun at Christmas as they challenge readers to try new things or get out of their comfort zone.

This is another low-effort, high-reward post. It’s easy to tailor to your market and customers, and highly shareable, especially if you include a cute graphic that people can share on social media. Just make sure you include original ideas alongside classics, like "go ice skating".

Examples:

  • 20 Outdoor Activities to Try This Christmas

  • An Introvert-Friendly Christmas Bucket List

  • 13 Things to Do With Kids During Christmas Break

10. Travel Guides

This is another niche idea. But it works great for any business that ties into travel, families, or adventure.

Travel guides are a little more labor-intensive, but have long-term appeal. An in-depth guide can bring in traffic for years. If you don't have personal experience traveling to some of the places on your list, make sure to do thorough research to provide accurate information. Maybe even interview a travel blogger or local influencer.

Examples:

  • The Best Christmas Displays in Philadelphia

  • Small Towns You Can’t Miss at Christmas Time

  • The Best Tropical Locations to Vacation at This Christmas

11. Niche-Specific Guides

All right, it's time to put your thinking cap on. I know you’re up to the task.

It's time to brainstorm a holiday-themed guide you could share that’s aligned with your niche and customer base. Something original that you don’t see often, and appeals highly to your ideal customer.

Say you're a jewelry business. You know your customers love thoughtful gifting and sustainability. A good post might be how to pick jewelry your friend will love for years to come, ending with a CTA to shop your one-of-a-kind pieces.

Examples:

  • How to Start a Christmas Light Business

  • How to Wrap Pottery So It Doesn’t Break

  • Sustainable Ways to Buy Christmas Gifts

Bonus: Christmas Freebie

I included this one as a bonus because it’s an add-on to these posts rather than as a post itself. For whatever posts you decide to write this year, come up with an easy-to-make, yet valuable freebie to go with it.

Then, you offer it to them in exchange for their email. Just like that, you have a new, engaged customer on your list. It's called a lead funnel, baby.

Don't have the skills to make something yourself? Try hiring someone on Upwork or Fiverr to do it for you.

Examples:

  • Printable gift tags

  • Christmas shopping planner

  • Notion Christmas planning page

Any business can figure out a Christmas blog post if they just put their mind to it. Now, go forth and write them!
