Local SEO is vital for businesses that want more customers in their area to find them. And one of my favorite ways to do that is via blogging.
Not only will targeting local keywords help you rank better in search, but it'll help establish you as an authority in the area. The more both of those things happen, the more people show up at your storefront.
But what should you write about? Get your notebook ready, because I have 10 local blog content ideas to inspire you this year. (For a fun extra game, count how many times I say local or location in this post.)
Local blog content ideas
1. Events
Local events are a draw for residents and visitors alike. They’re a great thing to cover on your blog, especially if it's something your customers will love. For example, don't write about sports events if your audience is girl moms.
There are several angles you can take on this. You could do a broad round-up post about lots of local events your customers might be interested in, or do an in-depth guide to one they're sure to love. At the end of the post, you can even throw in a little pitch for your store.

2. Review local businesses
Writing reviews of your fellow local businesses is a great source of blog content. You can share why people should visit them, the best things about them, where they're located, and any other important details.
These can be very helpful for readers who are interested in learning more about those businesses. It'll also show that you're a great community member who cares about your fellow small business owners.

3. Interview locals
Another way to support local businesses is by interviewing their owners. People love learning more about the people behind their favorite shops. Plus, you'll both get exposure from the post.
You could also interview people in the area about their favorite restaurants, bars, parks, and more. This lets you connect with the community and bring more interest to your posts.

4. Local news
Local news can be great for your blog if your audience finds it interesting. This doesn't have to be strictly local stories, though. You could also cover bigger news stories, but with a local spin.
This won't work for every business. But do some brainstorming, because you might find an angle that works for you and your customers.

5. Guides
Local guides can take all kinds of forms, depending on what your business is. For a hardware store, that could be the tools locals need for winter, while a florist might write about the best flowers to plant for spring in this area.
This is one of my favorite types of posts to write for local businesses. There are so many options and ways you can put a local spin on a classic post. It makes your content more unique and more helpful to the exact people you want to reach.

6. Round-ups
If you want a few easy posts for your blog, a good old round-up isn’t a bad idea. All you need is a little research time to make a post about the best places to visit, posts to read, or blogs to follow in the area. These are great to fill in your content calendar, but don't make them your bread and butter.

7. Attractions
Local attractions are another great topic to cover. Think reviews, travel guides, or behind the scenes of museums, parks, restaurants, art galleries, etc.
You can cover different-sized attractions, too. Bigger, well-known places will bring more traffic, especially from out-of-town people. But smaller hidden gems can attract more targeted potential customers.

8. Travel
Travel posts can be helpful for locals and visitors alike. Like with guides, they're easy to theme for your business and ideal customers. A contractor could write about the best historical houses in the area, for example.
These don't just have to be about your city or area, either. You could also write about surrounding spots, day trips, or nearby attractions if that's something your audience is interested in.

9. Answer questions
What kind of questions are people always asking about your area? They make fantastic blog posts. They’re helpful, human, and drive traffic to your website rather than generic competitors.
You can find all sorts of ideas via Reddit, Quora, or Facebook Groups. Simply look for local groups and see what kind of stuff pops up. Then all you have to do is write a post about it.

10. Listicles
